Once you have installed any kind of DIY air conditioning units in your home then you must make sure that you take care of it properly.  If you don't there is a far greater chance of the system failing in the future.  Also you will find that getting a good night's sleep when the weather is warm will prove difficult as the system cannot produce enough cool air to circulate around the room.

It is important that to take good care of these units that you inspect them on a regular basis.  It is a good idea to inspect your DIY air conditioning units both before you intend to use them before the weather turns warm and before you actually intend to shut them down when it turns colder.

When it comes to air conditioning units there are numerous parts that must be inspected as this will help to ensure that they function properly at all times.  The parts that will need inspecting include the circuit breaker, the thermostat, the air filter, the supply and return air plenums, the blower fan and heating and cooling coils.

Following inspection of these parts in your DIY air conditioning system you notice that the level of cool air being pumped into a room is very inadequate then you must inspect the air ducts.  Not only should you inspect the supply air ducts but also the return air ducts.  If these have been come clogged with dust and debris then of course the amount of air passing through won't be sufficient to allow the temperature in a room to be brought down to a level that is cool and comfortable.

Therefore it is a good idea before you start using your air conditioning units again that you spend time on cleaning them.  If you find that the air filters, fans or blower parts have become damaged or removing particles trapped in them is difficult then these parts should be replaced immediately.

There may be some parts of your DIY air conditioning units which are situated outside your home and it is vital that you don't completely enclose these.  Instead it is far better if you use a porch cover similar to that you would put over your front door to prevent the elements from causing damage to the unit.  Plus such a cover will help to prevent snow building up on top of it or inside it.

By covering the unit up completely this will cause moisture to build up inside the unit and cause damage to many of its working parts because rust will form on them. As a result of this damage the costs of repairing your DIY air conditioing system will be much greater as a large number parts will require replacing if you would like yours to run effectively when the weather turns warm again.
