Facts about the NFL Super Bowl

On Sunday 7th February 2010 the 44th NFL Super Bowl game will take place.  This sporting event is not only important to millions of Americans living in the USA but to those who live elsewhere around the world.  A great number of live events are broadcast on TV in the USA throughout the year; however this is the one that is watched the most.  But along with plenty of people watching the game this is a time when a great deal of food will also be consumed.

But as well as the facts we have given above there are others that may interest you regarding this particular game.  Below we look at just what some of these other facts are.

Fact 1 - The name Super Bowl was coined by the former owner of the Kansas City Chiefs team, Lamar Hunt.  He came up with it as he sat watching his children playing in the family's garden with a Super Ball.

Fact 2 - When advertised on television the game is identified through the use of Roman Numerals rather than the year in which the game is taking place.  The first ever game played was identified as Super Bowl I and this coming weekend's game will be identified as NFL Super Bowl XLIV.

Fact 3 - The game that will be played on Sunday is to determine which of the two teams who topped their particular conferences will be crowned overall champion of the 2009 American Football regular season.

Fact 4 - The team who have the honor of being crowned NFL Super Bowl champions the most are the Pittsburgh Steelers.  They have won this title six times.  Then there are two other teams who have won it five times each, namely the San Francisco 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys.

Fact 5 - Along with the Dallas Cowboys winning the title five times they are also the team that have competed in the most of these games since the first one took place.  Since the first Super Bowl game took place this team has been competing to win the title a total of eight times.

Fact 6 -The 44th NFL Super Bowl game will again be held in South Florida at the Sun Life Stadium situated in Miami Gardens.  This is a state where the NFL have chosen the most times for the event to be held since the competition began.  Over the years 5 times the Super Bowl game has been held at the Sun Life Stadium where the Miami Dolphins usually play and five times at the Orange Bowl which unfortunately has now been demolished.

Fact 7 -Before the game is able to commence then the National Anthem and America the Beautiful will be sung by a celebrity of the NFL's choosing.  This year they have asked Queen Latifah and Carrie Underwood to sing these songs.  Also to keep the fans happy the will be entertainment provided for them during the half time interval.  This year the half time show is being provided by "The Who".

Fact 8 - Should a company wish to air a commercial during any breaks in the NFL Super Bowl game they are going to have to pay a premium for doing so.  Currently they are estimating that companies will be charged $2.8 million for this opportunity but this is as a result of the number of people that will be tuning in to the TV station in order to watch the game.
