Wireless Cameras

What do you need?

Video surveillance is utilized in commercial and residential settings which is also called home security video. Closed circuit television monitors any movement indoors and out where security may be an issue.

Home security video and CCTV surveillance systems have several components which include:

Monitors

Monitors display video that is recorded with cameras installed in key places around the home. The resolution of the monitors is higher quality than a seen in a television. A black and white closed circuit monitor has resolution of 700 to 1000 lines. The resolution of color monitors is 350 to 400 lines.

Cameras

Cameras are installed in locations that provide the most security. They monitor movement in these areas. Cameras record and then transmit information to monitors.

Coaxial Cables

Coaxial cables are used to carry video from the camera to the monitor.

Switchers

Switchers hook two, and sometimes more, cameras with the monitor. More advanced switchers link alarm inputs to a targeted camera so it is locked if the alarm activates.

Camera

Choosing a camera should be done with care because of its importance to the video surveillance system. There are many things to look for when choosing a camera.

The homeowner has to decide the number of cameras that would securely monitor their home indoors and outdoors. Other choices include whether audio as well as video is desired and deciding on color or black and white images. There is also a choice of wired or wireless cameras.

Camera Placement and Installation

Where the cameras are placed is just as important as the installation. Cameras placed farther away provide a larger viewing area but offer less clarity. Proper camera installation avoids things that create blind spots like poles, trees or other landscaping. Cameras should also be installed at a height where they are difficult to reach.

There are several installation options available for video surveillance systems. One option is to have the security camera connected to a computer or television and VCR. Either a wired or wireless camera can be used in this manner. Other options include hidden cameras and spy cameras.

Home security video systems can be a do-it-yourself job if the homeowner is comfortable installing it himself. There are also many video surveillance companies and monitoring services that provide installation.
